If we had no winter, spring would not be so pleasant.

There are few certainties in life. The one knowing that spring will come, however long and challenging the winter will be, is a certainty that should get us through winter. We’re now on the other side of it. And it all seems more hopeful.

Whether we have been going through a rut, seasonal affective disorder, or simply struggling with something in our lives, knowing that things can get better and things can change may be just what we need to keep us going. Even if we are at a time when we do not feel better, we can believe in the possibility that we will feel better. Going through a difficult time can truly allow us to reflect on what we are grateful for and what we do have. This can be a time to appreciate the good things and appreciate the change, focusing on what is right rather than what is wrong. Being intentional about how we want to feel or what we want, essentially, replacing negative thoughts and feelings with positive thoughts and habitual action, can naturally lead to positive results.

Whether we have truly enjoyed this old-fashioned winter we have had – I for one tried to make the best of it – downhill and cross-country skiing, skating, snowshoeing, skating – or just endured it, winter still has its limits, even for the die-hard skiers, to what people often are willing to tolerate. And what has likely kept many going is knowing that spring will arrive at some point and we will get through it. Something naturally seems to happen as spring arrives – we feel better.

Spring can be a time for change. There is a reason why so many tackle spring cleaning – whether that means decluttering your home or garage, simply emptying the junk drawer or organizing your spring/summer wardrobe, or spring cleaning your lifestyle – making changes to what we eat, how we exercise, or even our sleep routine – can all help us to feel renewed.

Let’s welcome the change and spring renewal.
