A simple perusing of the internet will reveal a number of trending reports for the upcoming year of fitness.

Here, we have compiled and gleaned the top 5 trends and put a spin on those we believe will lead the way for modern fitness enthusiasts.

Fitness wherever, whenever, however…

Start where you are. Use what you can. Do what you can.

Mind-Body Wellness – The connection between mind and body is intricately linked; a healthy body begins with a healthy mind, and health is holistic; no longer can we think of the two as separate; taking care of one’s health means that mental-physical connection works in tandem. Don’t underestimate the power of positive thoughts leading to positive outcomes.

Outdoor Adventure – There is a whole world of opportunity outdoors; and in Canada, we are blessed with having a four-season playground (climate change considered) most often at our doorsteps, making it hard to become bored before activities change with the season.

Sustainability – Is this activity or choice going to be part of your lifestyle, not just be a quick fix? Think short-term fun but long-term effort, whether it be a way of being or carrying out exercise, or a new activity (Pickle Ball anyone?) that can garner enjoyment for many years to come. And we can all find ways to fit fitness into our lives.

Fitness for All – Inclusivity and accessibility – fitness should be for everyone, of all ages and abilities. Neither should ability nor cost be barriers to fitness. Fitness should never be deemed unattainable for the reserved few elite athletes. Nor should fitness need to cost an arm and a leg; indeed, no-cost/low-cost fitness is entirely possible.

Wearable Health – Why compromise style for function? Wearing fitness should be fun, functional, and stylish! There is no better time to find fitness wear that fits well, feels great, and serves its purpose. The ever-growing wearable technology trend includes those that assist you in your fitness goals and in collecting data to wearable medical devices that track important health data and allow people to exercise safely and essentially monitor their health – wearable fitness trackers, smart health watches, ECG monitors, blood pressure monitors, biosensors – all gear and gadgets aside, sometimes back to the basics is all we need – a simple health app on our phones that tracks our steps and a comfortable (and stylish) pair of footwear, and we’re off!
